William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac - And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks (1945)

Honestly, this was the last book I ever expected to see from Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs: a roman à clef mystery crime novel featuring the find and replace real events experienced by Burroughs and Kerouac as people involved in a murder. Simple, but that's not to the book's detriment. It's the same flavor as texts like On the Road, albeit not as back and forth and rhythmic as it.
